Press Release Format
While there
is no set format for press releases, many press releases
follow similar guidelines. Here's a template you can
use, and at the bottom of the page are further links
to press release format guidelines.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
<HEADLINE> Preferred type fonts are Arial, Times
New Roman & Verdana. The headline is the most important
part of a press release and you should give it careful
consideration. Try to grab attention. Go for clarity. Be
direct.
<City>, <Date> - Write clearly. State the
reason(s) why the press release is newsworthy. Reinforce
the headline. Elaborate.
Your body text should include information
about your product, service or event. If writing about
a product, include details on
when the product will be available, where it can be
purchased and the cost. If you're writing about an event,
include the date, location of the event and any other relevant
information. Try and answer the questions "who", "what", "when", "where", "why" and "how".
It is often a good idea to provide repuatable quotes
and/or external reviews. This adds credibility and gives
the press release more of a balanced, news-item fell as
opposed to a straight advertisment.
ABOUT <COMPANY> - Include a factual description
of your company and an outline of products and services.
CONTACT:
Contact Person
Company Name
Phone Number
FAX Number
Email Address
URL
- END -
Type "End" on the first line after your text
is completed. If your release goes over one page, type "More" at
the bottom of the first page.
